أقام مسلحون كمينًا وهميًا على الطريق قرب بئر العبد واختطفوا تسعة مسافرين. وأعلن تنظيم الدولة الإسلامية لاحقًا أنه أعدم ستة منهم بدعوى تعاونهم مع قوات الأمن. واستُخدمت عمليات الخطف هذه على طرق سيناء لبث الخوف بين السكان.

Militants set up a fake checkpoint on the road near Bir al-Abd and seized nine travellers. The Islamic State later said it had executed six of them, accusing them of working with the security forces. Such abductions on Sinai's roads were used to spread fear among residents.
